Sizes
and Colors of Poodles
Poodles come in different sizes (varieties):
Toy
10 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulder
Miniature
15 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulder
Standard
over 15 inches at the highest point of the shoulder
Only the height differentiates them; general appearance,
proportion etc. are all the same under the Breed Standard.
Also, note that there are no "teacups" or "royals";
these are gimmicky marketing terms. Go for solid breeding
instead. Poodles come in a wide range of colors:
Black
The best are deepest, glossy jet black and nonfading
Blue
The darkest of the grays, often with a blue cast
Silver
The lighter of the grays, definitely distinct from blue
Cream
Almost white, enhanced with a pinkish/beige tint giving
warmth
White
A dazzling, sparkling, brilliant white -- when clean
Apricot
The name says it all, just the color of a ripe one
Red
Deep and rich, a clear red very distinctly different
from apricot
Brown
Like dark chocolate, a rich, solid, elegant color
Remember, some puppies do not show their adult coloring
right away, the coat color clears and resolves as they
mature.
Poodle Weight:
Toy Poodles
This is the smallest poodle size. Toy poodles are 10”
or under at the highest point of the shoulder, and typically
weigh less than 12 pounds. Toys are very active and
love attention. They are energetic and require regular
walks and exercise.
Miniature Poodles
Miniature poodles are taller than 10” and up to
15” at the highest point of the shoulder. Minis
generally weigh between 15 and 35 pounds, depending
on their height. This medium poodle size is energetic
and needs a moderate amount of exercise.
Standard Poodles
This is the oldest breed size. A Standard poodle is
taller than 15” at the highest point of the shoulder,
with no upper size limit. Most Standards are between
the 22” and 27” range and weigh approximately
40-60 pounds. Like most large dogs, they require regular
walks and exercise.
Life Expectancy: 13 - 15 years.
